Riddochs of Rothiemay Ltd presentation

Photograph courtesy of Sandy Tough, Huntly.

Possibly a presentation around 1980 to Tom H Woolridge on retiring from Riddochs of Rothiemay Ltd of which he was General Manager having started with the Riddochs in the 1940s or early 50s.

From the people present it appears to be the period when the company was owned by the Kirkhill Group headed by Simon Fraser (1978 to 1985). Tom Woolridge was a District Officer with the Forestry Commission in his earlier days.

Members of the group are:

3. Robert Innes (FC - Conservator or Ast. Conservator Inverness)
4. John Anderson (Accountant – Riddochs)
6. William Macaskill (Director- Riddochs)
7. Willie MacPherson (Director- Riddochs)
8. David Clifford (Sales Director – Riddochs)
9. Peter Riddoch (see comments)
11. Gwyn Francis (FC - Director General of Forestry Commission )
13. B A Johnston (Director – Riddochs Kilmallie)
14. Jack Evans (Scottish Woodland Owners Association)
16. Simon Fraser (Beauly)
17. Tom H Woolridge (General Manager)
18. Tom Bruce Jones (See comments)

Help with more names and name corrections would be greatly appreciated.

Some familiar faces there, but the one that I Came into contact with most was Willie MacPherson.

I used to go out with him measuring up Timber, and also remember getting up at 4AM to go to Buckie to load Boats for the Northern Isles.

9 is my late uncle Peter Riddoch, nephew of Alex, Willie and Wyness. His father George, eldest son of George who built Tarryblake House, was a neurologist in London. After Willie died in 1969 Tarryblake was taken over by his older brother John who lived in Kenya and owned Glennie on the Deveron. In 1972 Peter moved up from London to live at Tarryblake and work for Unilever in Aberdeen. In 1999 he and his wife Peggy emigrated to Hobart, Tasmania. Both have since died. Since 1999 Tarryblake reverted to me, Dr Graeme Riddoch. I remain based in Hobart but spend time at Tarryblake every year and have started a small sawmill there, emulating my great great grandfather George whose mill was at Millegan.

No. 18 is Tom Bruce Jones, of James Jones & Sons Ltd.
