Mark 1 Chainsaw
Supposedly it had such a kick it took two men to start it up!

This a Jo-bu power saw about 80cc engine size. Swedish make I think. I was using one at Culloden forest about 1962/3.The carburettor had to be swivelled round through 90 degeees for felling position. You also needed a haversack of tools to keep the thing going. Once it broke down it was back to the cross-cut saw!! You can just see one in the background. I think Culloden had the first in the north consevancy.

It is a Jobu Junior, I used one in 1959 at Inshriach Forest. It was also used by by students at Benmore FTS during 1960-62.It was the cause of more frustration and bad language than anything I know.

Yes, It's a Jo-Bu Junior. I have one my father bought in about 1958. I have it still and have used it a lot, tho' not for years now. It was still going strong when last used. It lives in its original wooden box and is by the way Norwegian. Once I mastered it I found it very reliable. But it needs a good home now - any offers? Handbook included.

Hi,
A jobu was the first chainsaw I ever used. It was old when I used it, back in the 60s, older than the picture above. There was no pull-start, just a pulley UNDERNEATH the engine, with no guard over it, where you would wind the string to start it, and while in use, you had to be careful not to put your leg/knee under it for support - otherwise the pulley would make short work of your trousers!

This is a Jo-Bu Junior Super.
As stated it is a Norwegian brand that later became part of Elux and sadly, put too sleep.
The other saw mentioned here is likely a Jo-Bu Senior or Sankey '51.
Jo-Bu was silver and green handle, Sankey was silver and blue.

I have one myself.
There was good compression and even spark on the plug so cant wait getting this smoker fired up(heard they should have 1:8 oil fuel ratio).
Wonder why the cylinder walls had no scratches in it...
