Sam Harrison saw at Benmore

Younger Botanical Gardens - Glen Massan side. Student Sam Harrison felling mature Douglas Fir to allow neighbouring trees to become part of a heritage stand 1964. Note safety measures at time of felling !!
How early is this chainsaw? Have techniques changed since then?

Sam was a student at Benmore Forestry School, Cowal from 1962 - 1964. and ended his career as head forester at Castlewhellan, Co. Down. He has fond memories of this time and would like to communicate with any colleagues who remember him; names include, but are not limited to, Michael Day, Peter Humphries and Justin Smart. Does anyone know these folk? Email him via gordon@forestry-memories.org.uk.
