Drum flail on Atlas in Drumtochty Forest

Photograph courtesy of Douglas Archibald of Banchory.

Atlas 1404M operated by Douglas Archibald which has a drum flail conversion fitted to the end of the boom. At the side can be seen the stumps of the gorse and small trees which have had the flail treatment.
On the older established roads, regeneration of trees and gorse could be a serious problem in some areas and would end up completely blocking a road. These types of machines could deal with scrub if growth was caught below 6-8 feet high but much slower going if higher than this.
The location is Drumtochty Forest, Kincardine.
