Strathdearn Forest - Meallmore Section
Maps are courtesy of Inverness, Ross and Skye Forest District and show the forest areas originally known as Strathdearn and later managed as part of Culloden Forest. This is a second version of the one shown in Record No 4111 which has some additional planting as in years 1966 and 1967. Was some of this a replant due to failure or a fire?
This may have been the last hand drawn and coloured planting maps of this area as about this time a resurvey of the forest was carried out and future maps produced in the cartographic offices.
The Compartments run from 113 to 189 and the planting years from 1960 to 1965. The tree species naming is a little unusual as the mixture proportions have been added in beside some of the species name letters as for example SP/PC 3:3 indicating that three Scots pine were planted with three Lodgepole pine. From 1963 the Lodgepole pines provenances or geographical areas of origin were being indicated on the planting maps as per examples of PC (I) Inland Lodgepole pine and LP(C) Coastal Lodgepole pine.
