Glentress camp children circa 1960
The image is courtesy of James Ross Deacon, Peebles and he comments:
‘This is a group of forest worker’s children with black dog called Glen, I think, around 1959-1961. They are from back left Ross Deacon and Alan Davidson; 2nd row from left is Bennet Liddell and Colin Davidson;
front row from left Alan Brown, Carol Davidson and Colin Smith.
This is at the west end of William (Billy) and Betha Brown's green at Forest Worker House (FWH) No3. At rear of the children to the left is a storage hut and main electrics for the camp. The steps lead up to what was the student accommodation dormitory but now demolished and replaced by stone built forester’s house, Falladale, which should be in next picture.
The Davidson family (Heb) worked in FC sawmill at Eshiels and stayed at No 4 FWH which was the original cooks accommodation. The Smiths, Sandy Smith was a lorry driver at Glentress and now stayed at FWH no 2 as the Deacon family had moved to FWH No1. As to the Liddell family, I am not sure of the number, but they were in a foresters hut to the rear of the camp possibly Number 9 hut in the 1953 Aerial sketch shown in Record No 4059.’
Comments, stories and photographs from other former 'Camp' people would be very welcome.
