Restocking at Newcastleton Forest

Photograph is courtesy and copyright of Forestry Commission, Forest Research, Roslin, and provided with help from Glen Brearley. FR Photo number No B3862 taken by G G S.

An experiment (No 18 P58 Newcastleton) of cultivating a felled Sitka spruce site on 18 inches of peat with a tine plough.

Looks as though there was little or no cultivation and only a few stumps pulled out. Very few suitable spots for replanting on and the site is still waterlogged.
