Sowing seed in Newton Nursery Research section

Photograph is courtesy and copyright of Forestry Commission, Forest Research, Roslin, and provided with help from Glen Brearley. FR Photo number No A1518 taken by I A Anderson.

‘Sowing seed in drills in Newton Forest Research nursery in Exp 3P 53. Each dish of seed is sufficient for nine drills.’

This view and the other view in the PDF shows seed sowing in the experimental area of Newton Forest Nursery. It seems that seed from two tree species was sown Japanese larch and Scots pine in this variety of root undercutting depths experiment. An example of the time consuming and detailed work that went into much of the experimental trials.

See PDF for another view of the operation and nursery area.
