American Mercury Chainsaw
Photographs are courtesy of Alasdair Cameron, Ross-shire who took the photographs at the BA Vintage Country Fair held annually near Kintore, Aberdeenshire.
The photograph and the additional ones in the attached PDF are views of the largest saw in the saw stand alongside in this case a little John Deere chainsaw. The large saw is an American Mercury produced by Keikhaefer of Cedarburg, Wisconsin in association with Henry Disston.
A quote from the internet is as follows:
‘Elmer Carl Kiekhaefer worked with the navy supplying 12hp/90hp engines for the "Drone Airplanes" launched from a ramp and widely used after WW2. Kiekheaffer only produced engines so he had an association with JOHN HENRY DISSTON SAWS to supply him with the blades/chains/helper handles to assemble the "Mercury saws".’
Alasdair has asked in view of the paint used if this was an ex Forestry Commission or military saw?
