Forestry Commission Annual Reports 1950 -56
Annual Reports have to be completed annually by the Forestry Commission within a certain time frame. The national annual report is an amalgam of reports from the Countries who in turn amalgamate those from Conservancies, Heads of Departments etc who in turn gather data from Districts and other field locations via a myriad of financial and work quantity forms as well as written descriptive reports.
From the first paragraph in this minute to Conservancy staff, the 1950 Annual Report for the Northern Conservancy just caught the last train to Edinburgh before the deadline - quote ‘by the skin of its teeth’. The minute by Mr M Nicolson (Conservancy Admin and Finance Officer?) on behalf of the Conservator, James Fraser (John A Dixon after 1956), advises on methods and formats to prevent any delays in the future.
Of interest are some minutes addressed to the District Officers which gives the names of those in the Northern Conservancy at that time. With help from David Paterson most first names have been added and some suggestions as to their locations around this time of 1952 – 56.
Alasdair M Fraser – Culloden District
Fred Savage – Dornoch District
John? D MacLean – Fort William District
Dougie Graham Campbell – Central and West Ross-shire District
Terry? Cotter- Craig – Easter Ross District
Mike Long – Black Isle and Easter Ross District
David T Seal –
Jack E Massey – Cannich District
Finlay M MacRae – Fort William District
Robert (Bob) A Innes – Fort Augustus District or Divisional Officer
Alan F Mackay – Fort Augustus District and later Easter Ross
Ian A Grant – Possibly Conservancy Acquisition Officer
Sandy Morrison – certainly followed Finlay into Fort William District when?
Note that Tom S B Macbeath has appeared in the North Conservancy Office list and was Admin and Finance Officer but perhaps not at this time?
Any suggestions on names and location at this time would be very welcome.
