Training Course for driving Highland Garron ATV
The photographs and details are courtesy of Mike Aldridge, Inverness who was a training forester in the period the photographs were taken.
‘I took these pictures on an All Terrain Vehicle Training Course in Moy Forest just off the A9, south of Inverness circa 1994-5.
This site is the location we used for joint exercises with the Fire Service and PLM Helicopters on Fire Protection courses, so there may be other pictures at the same location.’
The photograph depicts a Highland Garron being de-bogged with a simple ‘Dead Man anchor’ constructed from a short stout pole held in position by driving fence posts into the ground at an angle front and back. The driver is training forester Keith Black who is also shown working on the Tirfor hand winch attached to the ‘Dead Man anchor’’
Any details of the Garron and what it was like to drive would be very welcome.
