Ratagan Forest Map - Ardintoul

Map is courtesy of Inverness, Ross and Skye Forest District and staff at their Fort Augustus office. See the large picture.

A new planting map showing the species and planting years from 1961 up to 1967 in the Ardintoul area of the forest located on the edge of Loch Duich. Unusually they have started back at No 1 with the compartment numbering. There is a note on the top of the route of an old path (right of way?) and some indication of an amended route being selected by a Mr Macdonald but certainly not clear of which is path and which is forest ride.

The map is also of interest because of the notes on the unplanted area suggesting a survey was undertaken with the plan to extend the planting up the hill. The notes refer to Call/mol/juncus and signify heather/ Molina grass/ rushes. The area was eventually planted in later years.
