Timber loading in Morayshire Forest

Photograph courtesy of David Foot, Surrey.

This is a second follow up to photograph recorded in Picture No 3330 which operation involves a FC lorry loading a contractor’s timber lorry with what could be 3m timber lengths indicating a possible load for the Pulp mill at Corpach, Fort William.

The lorry registrations are for the FC NHV597E indicating registration in 1967 and the timber lorry as BXB635C registered in 1965. The Speymouth Forest annual report for 1965 listed on their machine inventory a 7 ton lorry with 2 ton Hiab loader and a 5 ton lorry with 1 ton Hiab loader but other forests in the Morayshire area could also have had similar vehicles.
The contract timber Atkinson lorry has been identified by Norman Ross as belonging to Wm Ogilvie of Muir of Ord. The crane operator on the Forestry Commission lorry can be more clearly see in this photograph – can he be named? (See large photograph)

The Atkinson "Borderer" mk2, is displaying a badge on the grille which indicates that it was fitted with a Cummins diesel engine.
The reg, XB, was one of several county identifiers used in Scotland which did not obtain the letter S.
XB was issued in the Motherwell area. The Atkinson dealer in that area was Central Motors of Calder bank near Airdrie , and I would be surprised if that was not who had originally supplied the vehicle.
