Inchnacardoch Forest

Early photograph taken circa 1926 from a forestry album of 117 photographs compiled by an unknown Forestry Commission officer.

The caption reads ‘Inchnacardoch – Glengarry in the distance’ but examination of the near landscape reveals extensive draining on deep peat and what looks like deep ploughing on peat. The latter is very neat for such short runs and is most likely hand dug drains and the dug peat placed to simulate plough furrow spoil for a well documented planting experiment promoted by Dr Mark Anderson and others.

It is likely that this is the Forest Research experimental area known as the Lon Mor
