Clearfell at Dalcataig, Glenmoriston
Photograph courtesy of Jim Pratt and photographer Graham Whistler FBIPP FRPS.
Photograph shows the slopes and hollows on the hillside at Dalcataig, Invermoriston after all the felling and extraction had taken place. This site also produced large Douglas fir trees again up to 140 feet high most of which supplied Kilmallie Sawmills at Corpach then owned by Riddochs?
A sobering thought that 55 -60 years previously, forestry workers had struggled up and down these slopes with bags of trees and spades or mattocks and planted hundreds of thousands of trees in regular rows at 4-5 foot spacing. Their hard work and graft produced one of the finest tree crops in the Great Glen.
