Ex-forestry truck put out to grass...

Alasdair Cameron tells us that this Haflinger was retired to the farms of the Black Isle after spending years on Lovat Estate forests.

Alasdair goes on to sing their praises.
"They are beautiful pieces of engineering...light weight...Independent suspension all round...enclosed drive shafts....differential locks all round... and a 650 cc horizontal twin air cooled rear engine. Because of the dif locks they could out perform any 4X4 of the day on rough terrain. Wheels were 13 inch and were duelled with Hillman Imp wheels for soft conditions. Many were sold by Victoria Garage in Brora and Strathmore Motors in Perth."

Anyone remember these for forestry work? Were they up to the task?

Alasdair- Thanks for submitting the picture of the Halflinger as it has probably answered the query in picture 326 which shows a machine going through its paces on a boggy hillside in Argyll area. Going by the registration plate numbers the machines look to be of a similar vintage.
