Helicopter spraying gorse
The photograph is courtesy of Inverness, Ross and Skye Forest District and staff at their Fort Augustus office.
Little information on this image but could well be operations in Speymouth Forest around 1960 when they were using helicopters to spray herbicides on invasive gorse in young plantations or sites about to be planted.
A report by a Speymouth Forester G Stewart (can be seen in Number 2989) named a helicopter company as Helicopter Services Ltd of Luton which carried out some of the operations and this could be the name on front of the vehicle next to the pumps and tanks.
There is some sort of focus on a point where a hose leads to the helicopter. The man kneeling may have the red collar jacket of a forester.
