A group of Benmore students gathering to play cricket against the Edinburgh Botanical Gardens staff, the annual event being held alternatively at Benmore and Edinburgh.
Students L-R: Charlie Farmer, Norman Davidson, John Povall, in front Bill Barker, Johnny Thomson, Andy Little, Sandy Davidson, Brendan Jones, Len MacRae. The truth be told many of us had never played cricket before and the occasion was seen as a chance to get out and about and have few beers - perhaps nothing changes!

I think I was captain of the Benmore team. Managed a few runs and perhaps some wickets! Charlie Farmer was a good friend at Benmore but have since lost contact. Shared a bedroom at the top of the tower with John Thomson and remained in contact until his early death. Billy Barker a good footballer not like the goalkeeper, me! Retired after being concussed in a match! Never played football again.

Charlie Farmer died some years ago in Co Fermanagh.
