Clashindarroch Supervisor List dated 1952
This is a page of an extensive 75 page Forest History written for the Clashindarroch Forest in 1952 (See Picture No 291 and 292). This page indicates the supervision structure of the Forestry Commission in those early days as well as the names of the people who were actually in post.
From this page it would appear that the term 'Conservator' appeared in 1946 as a substitute for Divisional Officer but no indication if geographical areas of responsibility changed. I imagine 'State Forest Officer' applied to the senior Forestry Commission officer in each country ie Scotland, Wales etc but the position in the list seems to indicate otherwise. District Officer terminology carried on through to 1980's and referred to a part of a Conservancy or Division consisting of several forests and foresters responsible to a District Officer (DO). The first forester mentioned is Tom Allan, then Johnston Edwards, Jim Kennedy (Joined Timber Control in war time), George Innes, Jim Kennedy again to about 1955. After this Davy Anderson was the Forester/Head Forester and Finally Chief Forester over a period of about 25 years. (Information on Names courtesy of Gordon Thom)
The foresters listed at Clashindarroch over the years do not show any assistant or trainee foresters of which there were a few. Certainly there is no mention of the frontline staff.
