Huntly Herbicide Applicator development

Picture courtesy of family of Davy Anderson former Chief Forester.

Davy Anderson is standing beside the fully developed model of the Huntly Herbicide Applicator. In the middle is one of the earlier prototyped developed by Davy and his team at Huntly.

Donald Fraser from workstudy/research in Inverness developed the grooved cylinders that allocated measured amounts of herbicide with each pull of the handle lever. Individual cylinders came with different sized grooves which filled up with the appropriate volumes of various herbicides recommended for each treatment spot. They were still a bit fiddly and height above ground had to be kept fairly constant as well as keeping the applicator head shaft vertical and dry.

The third machine looks like a motorised insecticide applicator but not sure and any information on it is very welcome.
