Cheshire Trench Digger

Forestry Commission copyright image of Forest Research photographs courtesy of Glenn Brearley, Roslin. A169

A single cylinder 5 hp engine drives a bucket conveyor and the operator levers the machine forward on a hand ratchet connected to a wheel. Trench cut is vertical sided and depth is adjustable to a depth of 30 inches. Results were unsatisfactory in clay soil due to clogged buckets.

PDF shows some more images of the trench digger.
