10 South Laggan - Shian Cottage
This house was a 3 up 3 down tied forestry house. John 'Jock' MacRae lived here between 1943 and 1971. It was built by John Campbell and bought by the Forestry in the early 1940s. The house was made from old sheds, leftover wood and fish boxes. The car was a Woolsey and the dark back part of the house was the kitchen and bathroom. There was no heating in the house. It was demolished in 1972 and a new house, now Forest Lodge guest house, was built in its place by Jack Tom

Comments
We spoke to Jock's son, John, who grew up in this house, and now lives on the Isle of Skye. He remembers the house being "extremely cold" and having to be on his best behaviour when Mr Spraggan, his Dad's boss, paid a visit

My first memory was when this house was demolished and Forest Lodge being built. As a toddler, I fell into a deep hole on the building site.
