Ploughing in a very wet area

The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took many forestry photographs in his forestry career and many are now shown on this web site. Check under ‘Groups’ and George Dey Collection.

No information has been provided with this image but someone may recognise the location. It is possible that this is somewhere in the west but north of Cairnbaan.

It is interesting to see that the tractor and plough are reversing down to the very soft boggy area at the bottom of the photograph and then ploughing up towards the drier ground.

The tractor type cannot be identified but would almost certainly be a wide tracked County to survive above ground in these conditions. The ploughing is wide to keep well clear of the previous plough runs which would make the conditions even softer. The space between would have to be filled in by hand turfing. Note that a second man, possibly a forester, is watching operations and probably waiting to see how far he can chance ploughing in these very risky conditions.

Any information on location would be very welcome.
