Cat D2 with small logging arch - another driver

The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took many forestry photographs in his forestry career and many are now shown on this web site. Check under ‘Groups’ and George Dey Collection.

The location is thought to be Inverliever Forest possibly after the 1957 windblow. The small logging arch is being used this time with a Caterpillar D2 tractor FC 0279 in medium timber products.

Duncan Macdougall, Inverinan, has named the tractor driver as Peter Cummins at Inverliever. He believes he was on D2s from early forties till mid fifties and then went to ploughing tractors.

Hi I have the same spec D2 serial number 5J2684. It has a forestry commission of FC74 on three plates. Does anyone know where it spent its life or have any pictures of it working. I believe it spent most of its life in Hampshire and it was built in 1940. I also have a D4 s/n 7J3261 again a Hampshire tractor bought from Knocker Bros in Wickham and spent alot of its life in 100 acre wood in Borehunt. Any information on either would be excellent.

With lots of searching I have found this picture above and this is the type I have.
