Aerial Fertilising with Fixed wing aircraft
One of the few occasions that fixed wing aircraft were used to fertilise plantations with rock phosphate from North Africa at 750kg/ha. Fertiliser was dropped into an integral bin in fuselage in front of the pilot and released by opening a wide strip gate at the bottom through which the material ran out under gravity. This site is at Swordale Farm in Ardnamurchan. We were impressed with the way the aircraft could hop over the dyke in the middle of the field landing strip to get enough field length to take off.
