Today I have just heard that John Jackson is still living in his own house in the Dunoon area at the very respectable age of 102 years!! Amazingly he will have witnessed two commercial crops of trees come and go on his old forest.

The Jolly you mention could possibly be Dave Solway. He worked in the area, and played cricket for the school at Benmore.

Thanks Alexander and Pat you have just helped dig a bit further into my slipping memory cells. Dave Solway name is now more familiar at Benmore. I did come across a J(Jim?) Jolly when I worked at Atholl Estates Calvine section just prior to going to Benmore - he was a Commission forester and looked after the planting areas at Trinafour, probably outliers of Rannoch Forest.

As a follow up to the John Jackson comment I have just seen a note in the Slasher (FCA section) that John died at the end of January 2008 - 5 days short of his 102nd birthday.

Don't know about Dave Solway at Benmore but I know for a fact he was a Forester at Glenfinart Ardentinny for a number of years.

A Jim Jolly was a forester on Glen Errochty when Faskally students were planting there, I think in spring 1964. He was eventually in charge of Kirkhill Forest near Aberdeen
