These are a group of 12 ex Forestry Commission houses at Mount High on east side of B9160 4 or 5 miles from Rosemarkie on the Black Isle. The houses were for FC workers at Blackstand Nursery and Millbuie Forest (later Black Isle Forest )

Some of the Road Squad also lived at Mount High back in the mid 60's. One for sure was Billy (The Drotter) Mackintosh.

John Keenleyside, Forres, has made contact to say that he took that actual photograph and that the houses were built in the very early 1950s.

Some of the residents were originally from St Kilda not known for its forests. The other hub of forestry on the Black Isle was Munlochy where over seventy men and women were employed by the FC in nursery and planting work, It also had some forestry houses in the village.

The address given for two of the forestry workers in 1941 (on their death certificates, sadly) was "Forestry Houses, Mount High" so they couldn't have been built in the 1950s, unless there were earlier houses and there was later rebuilding? Are there records of the construction in Commission archives, I wonder?
