Origins of Scots pine seed in Scotland
Mike Phillips, a former research head forester at Newton, published several papers during his career and in retirement. The first attached paper in the PDF reviews the information available on Scots pine seed collections in the past and looks at the possible influence of seed from Europe. The last paper summarises the results of the carbon dating of wood from stumps found buried in the peat at Elchies Forest. It was estimated the original trees were growing over 6000 years ago.
